Dr. Navin Kumar has a background in diverse research disciplines such as Molecular Biology and Genetics (PhD), Recombinant Protein Purification (post-PhD industrial exp at Panacea Biotec Ltd), and Fungal Pathogenesis and Molecular Diagnostics (academic research as group lead and mentor). Dr. Navin held/mentored research grants from USBD, Govt of Uttarakhand, DST-INSPIRE and DST-WOS-A schemes. He has a proven record of basic and translational research evidenced by over 55 peer reviewed publications, 05 book chapters. 02 granted Indian patents, and 01 transfer of technology to industry. He has contributed in the development of a patented RT-PCR test kit (VANSCAN launched by Vanguard, Diagnostics) for quick and accurate diagnosis of Typhoid. This is the first RT-PCR based test in the world that can identify both, S. typhi and S. paratyphi with specificity and sensitivity better than any test available in the market.

He has supervised 6 PhD students, and has organised over 15 scientific events like national/international conferences, workshops, and seminars. He is the reviewer in peer-reviewed journals like Biofouling, Defence Life Science Journal, Journal of Pharmaceutical Research International etc. Dr. Navin Kumar has also discharged many administrative/academic duties assigned to him time to time e.g. Coordinator Training & Placement, Asst Coordinator-IPR, Chairman-DRC/SRC, Head Department of Biotechnology (since 2020 till date).
