Mission

The mission of the department is to educate, prepare, inspire, and mentor students to excel as professionals at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for leadership roles in the fields of mechanical engineering and to conduct research for the benefit of society.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs): The programme aims to

  • PEO1: To enable students apply concepts of mathematics, science and engineering to Mechanical Engineering.
  • PEO2:To acquaint students with a strong base in the fundamentals of engineering necessary to formulate, solve, analyze and evaluate simple and complex engineering problems, and prepare them for higher studies and research.
  • PEO3: To inculcate effective communication skills, ethics, leadership qualities in students for a successful career in relevant industries to serve the society, industry, scientific community and the nation.
  • PEO4: To develop the ability in students to engage in lifelong learning, research and development, and entrepreneurship in an optimized, professional, dedicated and ethical manner ensuring environmental sustainability for the benefit of society on the whole.

Program Outcomes: The graduate will be able to

  • PO1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • PO2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • PO3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • PO5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • PO6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

  • PEO3: Graduates will become innovators, entrepreneurs, academicians and researcher will provide services to address technical, research & development, business and social challenges.

  • PO1: An ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development work to solve practical problem.
