Graphic Era Deemed to be University has formed valuable partnerships with leading companies in the field of geo-informatics. These collaborations offer students enrolled in the university’s geo-informatics program the chance to gain hands-on experience in the industry. The university’s placement cell plays an active role in connecting students with prominent organizations in the geo-informatics sector, resulting in a significant number of students securing internships and placements in prestigious companies. The university’s primary objective is to provide a comprehensive approach to geo-informatics education, emphasizing practical application. To achieve this goal, the university leverages its well-established connections in the industry by organizing site visits, internships, and challenging projects that enable students to apply their knowledge to real-world situations. These opportunities equip students with the skills and experience necessary to thrive in their future careers in geo-informatics.
Geo-informatics has gained significant attention in recent years due to the increased demand for data-driven decision-making across various sectors. Some of the job roles that fall under the umbrella of geo-informatics include :
The program curriculum includes a range of courses such as GIS, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, Database Management, and Image Processing, among others. These courses provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles, theories, and techniques of geo-informatics. The program also includes practical training, fieldwork, and research projects to enhance the student’s practical skills in geo-informatics. In early semesters, students are introduced to the basics of GIS, RS, and GNSS. They learn about the principles of spatial data acquisition, analysis, and visualization. The topics covered include Cartography, Geodesy, GPS, GIS Data Management, Remote Sensing Fundamentals, and Digital Image Processing. They further build on the foundational knowledge gained by learning about advanced topics in GIS and RS such as Spatial Analysis, Geo-statistics, and Machine Learning for Geospatial Data Analysis. In addition, they learn about GNSS-based applications such as precision farming, surveying, and mapping. They also cover topics such as Web GIS, Mobile GIS, and Spatial Database Management. The later semesters focus on specialized topics such as Environmental Modelling, Urban Planning, and Disaster Management. Students learn about the applications of GIS and RS in these fields and acquire hands-on experience through practical projects. The program also includes a course on Geospatial Programming, where students learn to develop software applications using popular GIS and RS platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and ENVI. In final semester students also undertake a research project under the guidance of a faculty member. The project involves applying the knowledge and skills gained throughout the program to a real-world problem. Students are encouraged to identify research topics that align with their interests and career goals. They also have the opportunity to collaborate with industry partners to gain practical experience and exposure to real-world challenges. The program also includes a course on Geospatial Ethics and Policy, where students learn about the ethical and legal considerations related to the use of GIS and RS in various applications.
