The Master of Laws (LL.M.) is an advanced postgraduate programme designed to provide in-depth and specialized knowledge of law while fostering critical thinking, research competence, and interdisciplinary engagement.

The programme combines advanced doctrinal learning, comparative and international perspectives, skills-based training, and original legal research, enabling students to develop expertise in chosen domains of law. Through a combination of core courses, specialised electives, seminars, and a supervised dissertation, the LL.M. curriculum encourages analytical reasoning, doctrinal clarity, and original research.

The LL.M. programme offers specialisations in Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Law, International Commercial Arbitration and Investment Law, Environmental Law and Justice, Construction Law and Practice, and Constitutional Law. Each specialisation is structured around core compulsory papers, focused electives, seminars, and a dissertation, ensuring both depth of subject mastery and research competence. The curriculum is designed to align with the Bar Council of India requirements while incorporating global best practices and interdisciplinary insights.

  • Socratic Method
    Socratic Method is a dialogue between the teacher and students, instigated by the continual probing questions of the teacher, in a concerted effort to explore the underlying beliefs that shape the students’ views and opinions.

    The Langdell method is a method of legal instruction, also known as the case system and case method. Analysing real or hypothetical cases to develop analytical and problem-solving skills (e.g., ratio decidendi, obiter dicta).

    Collaborative teaching, also known as co-teaching or team teaching, is when two or more educators work together to instruct, plan, and mentor the same group of students in a shared classroom, combining their unique skills for more engaging and effective learning, often benefitting students with diverse needs through varied perspectives and support.
  • Service-Learning
    Service-learning is an experiential learning pedagogy that moves students beyond the classroom to become active participants in their learning and develop civic knowledge and skills. Students who take service-learning courses work with local, national, and international non-profit and public organizations to deeply learn and practice course content by working on a real, community-identified need. Students learn the course material, get to work directly on an issue facing the community, and learn about their communities in the process.

Specializations

  • LL.M. in Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Law
    This specialisation examines the intersection of law, innovation, and emerging technologies in a rapidly evolving knowledge economy. It provides an advanced understanding of intellectual property regimes governing patents, copyrights, trademarks, data, and traditional knowledge, while critically analysing legal challenges posed by digital technologies, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and global trade. The curriculum integrates international and comparative perspectives, including TRIPS, WIPO frameworks, and cross-jurisdictional jurisprudence, alongside India’s public-interest-oriented IP framework. Emphasis is placed on policy analysis, innovation governance, licensing, enforcement, and technology regulation, preparing students for careers in IP litigation, technology law practice, corporate advisory roles, research, and academia.
  • LL.M. in International Investment and International Commercial Arbitration
    This specialisation offers advanced and integrated training in cross-border investment law and international commercial arbitration, focusing on the resolution of complex disputes arising from international trade, foreign investment, infrastructure projects, and commercial contracts. The programme examines international investment treaties, Investor–State Dispute settlement (ISDS), commercial arbitration frameworks, and enforcement of arbitral awards under the New York Convention. Through a comparative and practice-oriented approach, students engage with arbitral institutions, procedural strategy, drafting of arbitration agreements, and emerging challenges such as investment protection standards, State regulatory powers, and treaty reforms. The specialisation prepares graduates for careers in international arbitration practice, law firms, in-house counsel roles, investment advisory, policy research, and academic pursuits.
  • LL.M. in Environmental Law and Climate Justice
    This specialisation addresses the legal dimensions of environmental protection, sustainability, climate governance, and environmental justice. It explores national and international environmental regimes governing biodiversity, climate change, pollution control, natural resource management, and sustainable development. The curriculum critically examines environmental constitutionalism, environmental rights, indigenous and community rights, climate litigation, and environmental governance mechanisms, with a strong emphasis on justice, equity, and intergenerational responsibility. Comparative and international instruments such as the Paris Agreement, CBD, and SDGs are integrated with Indian environmental jurisprudence, preparing students for careers in environmental litigation, policy advocacy, regulatory bodies, NGOs, and academia.
  • LL.M. in Construction Law and Practice
    The LL.M. in Construction Law and Practice is a professionally oriented programme focusing on the legal, contractual, and dispute resolution aspects of infrastructure and construction projects. It provides specialised knowledge of construction contracts, project risk allocation, procurement frameworks, delay and disruption claims, and dispute resolution mechanisms, including arbitration and adjudication. Students engage with standard-form contracts (FIDIC, EPC, PPP models), regulatory compliance, project finance, and construction-related arbitration, integrating legal theory with industry practice. This specialisation prepares graduates for careers in construction law firms, infrastructure companies, project management consultancies, and dispute resolution practice.
  • LL.M. in Constitutional Law and Governance
    The LL.M. in Constitutional Law and Governance focuses on the constitutional foundations of governance, democratic institutions, public power, and accountability. The specialisation examines how constitutions structure the State, distribute power, protect rights, and regulate governance through courts, legislatures, executives, and independent institutions. With a strong doctrinal, comparative, and policy-oriented approach, the programme equips students to critically analyse constitutional governance challenges such as executive power, federalism, regulatory governance, rights enforcement, institutional accountability, and democratic backsliding. The specialisation prepares graduates for constitutional litigation, governance advisory roles, judicial clerkships, public institutions, think tanks, and academic or doctoral research.
