The BA (Hons.) Economics with Research program is a four-year undergraduate course that offers students an in-depth understanding of economics, financial analysis, and policy making, with a strong focus on research-oriented subjects. This program offers students option to choose between the standard 3- year BA (Hons.) Economics and the extended 4- year BA(Hons.) economics with research option. During the initial three years, students enrolled in both 3-year and 4-year program will follow the same curriculum. Our curriculum is meticulously designed to equip students with the analytical tools and theoretical frameworks necessary to delve into complex economic phenomena.

Over the initial three-year period, participants in both the three-year and four-year programs will undergo identical coursework. This phase focuses on instilling foundational knowledge in economics, mathematics, public finance, environmental economics, business principles, and academic writing. Students will explore diverse subjects including agricultural economics, human resources economics, economic ideologies, economic history, and sustainability concepts. Furthermore, they will advance their understanding through research in economics, data analysis, exploration of economic challenges, and examination of modern economic dilemmas. The curriculum also encompasses specialized fields such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), industrial economics, and financial studies.

In the fourth year of the BA (Hons.) Economics with Research program, students will have the opportunity to specialize in research-oriented subjects. This includes courses like Research Methodology, which equips students with essential skills for independent research and critical analysis.

Additionally, students enrolled in the BA (Hons.) Economics with Research program are required to submit a dissertation as part of their academic requirements. The dissertation serves as a culmination of their research-oriented studies, demonstrating their ability to conduct independent research and critical analysis in a chosen area of economics or related fields. Under the supervision of a faculty member, students will engage in a significant research endeavor centered on a particular topic within the realm of economics.     Further Studies: Moreover, students who successfully complete the BA in Economics (Hons) with Research program gain eligibility for a one-year MA in Economics degree. This pathway allows for a smooth transition to advanced studies for those who wish to further specialize in English or related fields. 

    Research-Centric Approach: 

    The program’s research-centric approach prepares students for direct admission to Ph.D. programs, provided they graduate with a minimum of 75 percent. For students who achieve below 75% in their BA in Economics (Hons) with Research, pursuing the one-year MA degree becomes mandatory to get admission in a Ph.D. program. This ensures that students are equipped with the necessary research and analytical skills to pursue advanced studies and contribute to academia in their chosen field.
