Dr. Yashaswi Singh

Assistant Professor Biotechnology

Dr. Yashaswi Singh is a Plant Biotechnology by training. He has over 9 years of research experience working in prestigious research institutes like the Forest Research Institute, Wildlife Institute of India, and Indian Agriculture Research Institute. He obtained his Doctorate from the Forest Research Institute in Forest Biotechnology working in the Genetics and Tree Improvement Division. His Doctoral work entitled “Pathogenesis-related (PR) protein(s) in Shisham (Dalbergia sissoo) against Fusarium solani wilt disease” was instrumental in the identification of disease-resistant genotypes of Shisham (Dalbergia sissoo), an important timber species of India, against Fusarium solani wilt and the validation of the molecular basis of disease resistance in Shisham.

Dr. Singh’s current research focuses on the intricate relationships of plant-microbe interaction. The co-evolution of plants and microbes over centuries has resulted in complex species-specific interconnections of different microbiota with a plant that not only helps to sustain the soil environment but also promotes the growth of plants by nutrient acquisition from the soil, nitrogen fixation, phosphate availability, phytohormone, and antimicrobial production. Such associations also help the host plant in ameliorating biotic and abiotic stresses. His current research focuses on deciphering the role of such microbes in plant growth promotion and the accumulation of secondary metabolites. His lab currently hosts 3 Ph.D. scholars working on different aspects of plant-microbe interaction and abiotic stress tolerance in plants.
