About The Program

A Ph.D. in Sociology is a rigorous, research-oriented program designed to train scholars in advanced sociological theory, diverse research methodologies, and specialized substantive areas such as social inequality, health, or urban studies.

The curriculum typically begins with anintensive coursework in sociological and philosophical basis of educational research, quantitative and qualitative methods, and statistical analysis, often culminating in comprehensive exams that test a student’s mastery of the field.

Following these foundational years, candidates transition into independent research, producing an original dissertation that makes a significant contribution to sociological knowledge. The program generally takes five to seven years to complete and prepares graduates for leadership roles in academia, government policy, and non-profit research.
