About The Program

The Four-Year B.A. (Hons.) Economics Program offers comprehensive engagement with economic theory, quantitative techniques, policy analysis, and real-world applications.

The program also advances into specialized areas such as Development Economics, Financial Economics, Environmental Economics, Econometrics and data-driven economic modelling. Under the framework of the National Education Policy 2020, the curriculum incorporates Major Disciplinary Courses (DSC), Minor Stream Courses (MSC), Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC), Ability and Skill Enhancement Courses (AEC/SEC), Value Addition Courses (VAC), along with Research Projects and Internships, ensuring deep learning.  

The four-year structure is prepared to strengthen critical thinking, analytical reasoning and advanced empirical research skills. Students gain proficiency in statistical tools, enabling them to work with complex datasets, undertake economic forecasting and conduct independent research. The program also encourages interdisciplinary exposure via mandatory minor and multidisciplinary coursework, helping the students develop a broader perspective and become contributors to data-driven decision-making.  

Students may choose between the standard three-year B.A. Economics with Major in Economics and the extended four-year B.A. Economics (Hons.) with Research. The first three years of both pathways focus on core principles of economics, quantitative skills, policy understanding, and academic writing. In the fourth year of the Research program, students specialize in advanced research-oriented subjects and undertake substantial economic research projects or dissertations. Through interactive learning methods, collaborative activities, case studies, and hands-on analysis, the program ensures an engaging academic experience that connects economic theory with real-world implementation. Overall, the four-year degree prepares students for diverse career avenues, including core economic research, policy analysis, consulting, banking, data analytics, civil services, corporate strategy, and roles in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have completed 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
  • Students from any stream (Science/Commerce/Humanities) are eligible to apply.
  • A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination is required (as per University norms).

Teaching Pedagogies

  • Case Studies: Students analyzes social as well as economics scenarios applying theoretical concepts to real world case studies involving markets, policy challenges, and developmental issues.
  • Group Projects and Presentations: Provide assignments including data analysis, field-based research, and presentations on various emerging economic topics. Students also uses digital tools such as SPSS, Excel, and R to interpret evidence-based findings.
  • Project-Based Learning: Students can apply economic theories, quantitative techniques, and research methods to investigate real-world problems. It emphasize the use of primary and secondary data sources with the help of analytical software to propose meaningful recommendations.
  • Flipped Classroom: : Students access lecture videos or digital learning materials on economic theories and policy debates before class. Classroom sessions are then utilized for discussions, simulations, and hands-on application of these ideas to current economic issues.
  • Digital and Software-Enabled Learning: The program integrates SPSS, Stata, Excel, and R to build students’ competency in data handling, statistical analysis, visualization, and economic modelling ensuring they are equipped with essential research and analytical skills.
