About The Program

The BA (Sociology) Program offers a rigorous and deep exploration of human societies, institutions and social behavior moving beyond the fundamental concepts to encompass advanced theory specialized fields, including environmental sociology, digital sociology, intensive social research methods and criminology.

This extended Program of BA Sociology is designed not only to enhance critical thinking skills but also ensures proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative data analyses often culminating in substantial research projects and dissertations. This comprehensive learning and training prepare the students for multifarious and diverse professional roles in policy analysis, market research, urban planning and other advanced academic pursuits.

Further the four-year structure allows the students for a more depth in qualitative methodology enabling them with complex data sets and statistical software thereby preparing them for advanced empirical research roles. The duration necessitates both a minor and interdisciplinary coursework broadening the perspective of students and making them more versatile contributors of data- driven decision making process and social insights as well. The Program offers students the flexibility to choose between a standard 3-year BA in Sociology (Hons) and the extended 4-year BA in Sociology (Hons) with Research option. During the initial three years, students enrolled in both the 3-year and 4-year programs will follow the same curriculum.

The first three years are dedicated to introducing students to the fundamentals of Sociology, Sociological Theory, criticism, and academic writing. In the fourth year of the BA in Sociology(Hons) with Research program, students will have the opportunity to specialize in research-oriented subjects. Overall, this four-year degree equips graduates with versatile skills in critical thinking, and analysis, opening up a wide range of career possibilities across various domains such as academia, research, civil services, law, journalism, public relations and communications roles and non-profit sectors among others. The courses also feature vibrant illustrative material in the form of case studies meant to make and understand the concepts and theories vivid learning process engaging and illustrate the discipline in action in terms of empirical investigations.

Eligibility Criteria for the admissions in the Program

  • Candidates must have completed 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
  • Students from any stream (Science, Commerce, or Humanities) are eligible to apply.
  • A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination is required (as per University norms).
