About The Program

B.A (H) English three-year undergraduate program was introduced by the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences at Graphic Era deemed to be University in 2019. B.A. (Hons) English encompasses the study of the English language and literature and how it came in modern form along with highlighting many aspects of English society through drama, poetry, novels and play.

One dissects popular texts and poems and the course is not just limited to the syllabi but to a general awareness of one’s surroundings. The students demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of representative authors and works in literature written in English as well as their social, cultural, theoretical and historical contexts.

The program seeks to situate students in the cutting-edge research benchmarks, besides imparting learning and serving as facilitators to unleash the students' creative potential. This program in English Literature is designed to inculcate critical, interpretative and analytical abilities in students, while promoting a comprehensive understanding of the historical development of English literature and its global contexts. It also provides systematic exposure to major literary periods, genres, movements, and authors, enabling learners to develop intellectual rigor, aesthetic sensibility, and effective communication skills.

Eligibility Criteria for the admissions in the Program

Candidates who have passed 12th/Higher Secondary Education in any stream from a recognized board of examination with not less than 60% mark

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1

To be able to identify and appreciate various literary/linguistic developments of different historical periods and geographical regions including major trends, movements and critical/linguistic approaches.

To undertake research, analysis, and criticism of literary /cultural texts across various genres to enable the students to chalk out a career in academia and contribute significantly to his/her intellectual, cultural and societal development. 

PEO3

To acquire the skills of writing analytically in a variety of formats, including essays, research papers, reflective writing, and critical reviews of secondary sources making them fit for copyrighting, publishing and editing jobs

To apply the analytical skills necessary for conducting original research in English literature and develop critical faculties, necessary in an academic environment, on the job, and in a globalized world.
