Assistant Professor Microbiology
Dr. Shabaaz Begum is an Assistant Professor and interdisciplinary scientist working at the intersection of nanobiotechnology, microbial nanomaterials, and phytochemical-based nanofabrication. She earned her Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Bangalore University in 2021 as a recipient of the prestigious DST–INSPIRE Fellowship, awarded by the Government of India for outstanding research potential. Her doctoral research focused on metabolism-driven biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles, with in-depth analysis of their physicochemical properties, bio-capping mechanisms, and structure–function relationships influencing antimicrobial and biomedical applications. She holds a Gold Medal in M.Sc. Botany (Major) with Microbiology (Minor) and a triple-major B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Botany, reflecting a strong multidisciplinary foundation. Her current research interests include nanoantibiotics, biofunctional nanostructures, nano–microbe interactions, and sustainable nanomedicine. Dr. Begum actively collaborates on international and translational research projects and is deeply committed to mentoring students in rigorous experimentation, advanced characterization techniques, and ethical research practices.
