A team of researchers comprising faculty members, staff, and research scholars from the Department of Biosciences actively participated in the Annual Flower Show 2026 (Basant Utsav) held at Lok Bhawan, Governor House, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The event took place from February 27 to March 1, 2026, and attracted a large number of visitors including students, farmers, horticulture enthusiasts, and members of the general public.
During the three-day event, the Biosciences team set up an informative stall showcasing their research and outreach activities. The stall highlighted the department’s work in plant tissue culture, value-added product development, and awareness on orchid cultivation, particularly focusing on the potential for orchid farming in the state of Uttarakhand. Demonstrations and displays were arranged to explain the techniques and benefits of plant tissue culture for large-scale propagation of plants, as well as the preparation of value-added products derived from plant resources.
The researchers actively interacted with visitors, answering queries and providing guidance on orchid cultivation practices and entrepreneurial opportunities in horticulture. Informational materials and live displays helped visitors understand the importance of modern biotechnological approaches in plant propagation and sustainable agriculture.
The stall received an enthusiastic response from visitors and was appreciated for its educational value and practical relevance. The initiative also gained attention from several media outlets and was widely covered by local news channels, further highlighting the department’s contributions to scientific outreach and public awareness.
The event proved to be a successful platform for disseminating scientific knowledge, promoting orchid cultivation in Uttarakhand, and strengthening Department’s efforts towards engagement between researchers and the wider community.
