The Department of Biosciences, in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, celebrated Wildlife Week 2025 on 6th October 2025 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and faculty members.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Honโble Vice Chancellor, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. (๐๐ซ.) ๐๐๐ซ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ก; Pro Vice Chancellor, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. (๐๐ซ.) ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐จ๐ฌ๐ก ๐. ๐๐๐ซ๐๐; Chief Guest, ๐๐ก๐ซ๐ข ๐. ๐. ๐๐๐ ๐ข, ๐๐ ๐ (๐๐๐ญ๐.), Former Additional Director General (Wildlife) & Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India; Head, Department of Biosciences, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. (๐๐ซ.) ๐๐๐ง๐ฎ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ; and Event Coordinator, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. (๐๐ซ.) ๐. ๐.๐๐ง๐ข๐ฒ๐๐ฅ.
The program commenced with the traditional Saraswati Vandana, followed by a welcome address by the Head of the Department. All dignitaries addressed the gathering, inspiring students with their insightful words on the importance of wildlife conservation and sustainable ecosystems.
The Keynote Speaker, ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ง๐๐ญ๐ก ๐. ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฒ๐, Nodal Veterinary Officer, National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), MoEFCC, Government of India, delivered an engaging talk titled โProject Cheetah: The Great Indian Homecoming โ Rewilding the Grasslands & Reclaiming a Legacy.โ Another expert speaker, ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ฒ๐๐ง ๐๐๐๐ก๐ฎ, Research Scientist, Tiger Cell, NTCA and WII, Dehradun, shared valuable insights on โTechnologies in Tiger Conservation.โ
A special team from the Uttarakhand Forest Division, Asarori Forest Range, also joined the celebration and demonstrated various instruments and techniques used in snake rescue and wildlife handling.
As part of the event, an exciting Wildlife Quiz Competition was also organized by the quiz masters. A total of 4 team participated in the competition. The celebration concluded with a valedictory ceremony and a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. (๐๐ซ.) ๐. ๐. ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฒ๐๐ฅ, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, and participants for making the event a grand success.
